A Paramedic’s Advice for Students

Jamie Hibbert

LARU Officer Paramedic

Jamie Hibbert, Paramedic and LARU Officer, shares some of his advice in the video above for students who are considering following the same career path.

He shares the honest reality that it’s not all “lights and sirens” and high acuity cases. Many students chase this career for the excitement and adrenaline rush of saving lives. But Jamies shares that realistically those “big jobs” account for 50% or less of the call-outs. A large portion is routine transfers or lower acuity cases and those patients should be just as important to you as a medic.

The second piece of advice is that Jamie gives is that this career is about passion, not a paycheck. You really need to be passionate, driven and have the tenacity to stick with it through the good AND hard times.

If you think you have what it takes, we can help you get there!
