To summarise Timothy’s thoughts on his journey studying:
A hard-working father of 3 young children and student of Australian Paramedical College, Timothy reveals how the APC Student Success Team and attending clinical workshops were pivotal in assisting him on his journey through the HLT51015 – Diploma of Paramedical Science (superseded by HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care).
Tim also hopes to explore further study options at UTAS, with aspirations to work in the Australian mining industry!
“My name’s Timothy Briggs. I’m a student with the Australian Paramedical College for nearly two years now. I’m studying the diploma in paramedical science.”
“Without the practical workshops, I wouldn’t have the ability to meet other students and interact with them after the workshops because for me, I’m a social, visual learner, so having that one-on-one contact with other students outside where I catch up in study groups.”
“I’m originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, but I’ve been living in Perth, Western Australia for the last seven years. I have a family. I’ve got three young kids.”
“I’ve got three under three, before workshop one, I would just wait until the kids had gone to bed and then I’d study through for at least a couple of hours a night.”
“A pathway I’m interested in is going through, after this, using my diploma to go through UTAS. From there, I could either go and get my mine safety and rescue and work in the various mines around Western Australia or I can press on.”
“I will make that up as I go on and see what options and doors open for me when that comes. You’ve always got the Student Success Team there. They’re great. You can ring them up within hours, but they’ll always lead you in the right direction and they’re always understanding of your circumstances, and definitely give it a go.”
“It’s a time commitment, but it’s worth it. If you have a goal in mind and this is what you want, strive towards it and you’ll get there. ”
Everyone’s got responsibilities back home and at work, but we shouldn’t let that hold us back from chasing our dreams and vision for the future.
