CareFlight has secured a number of contracts with major oil, gas and mining companies to provide medical services.  This has provided excellent opportunities for experienced Intensive Care Paramedics in our energy services operations.

The role

CareFlight provides fixed wing assets, clinical and aviation staff, medical advice, clinical governance, logistic and coordination services for clients.

Intensive Care Paramedics / Aircrew Officer are integral to the service and will be assigned to offshore vessels on a rotational basis.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • hold qualifications to work as a Paramedic in a public ambulance service in an Australian State or Territory or in New Zealand (including primary paramedic qualification – eg Bachelor Degree in Paramedic or Health Science or equivalent)
  • hold qualifications as an Intensive Care Paramedic (eg Graduate Diploma (ICP) or Masters (ICP) N.B. depending on jurisdiction, this may include Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA), Paramedic, Clinical Manager (Royal Australian Navy), Intensive Care Paramedic (ALS), Level 5 Paramedic


  • hold qualifications as a Retrieval Paramedic (e.g. Graduate Certificate (RP) or Masters (RP) N.B. depending on jurisdiction, this may include Flight Paramedic, Air Ambulance Paramedic, MICA Flight Paramedic, Critical Care Paramedic, Flight ICP, Aero Medical Evacuation Medic (ADF)
  • be able to provide evidence of certification completed within the past three years in:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or equivalent
  • Advanced Life/Cardiac Support (ALS or ACLS) Certification or equivalent
  • Trauma qualification PHTLS/ITLS training and certification.
  • OPITO approved TBOSIET or BOSIET
  • OPITO approved CA-EBS
  • be able to demonstrate evidence of Skills Maintenance
  • have five (5) years’ work experience in Emergency Medicine
  • have three (3) years’ work experience in a Remote Location
  • meet the proficiency level in the areas of competency required for health practitioners working in Extreme Remote Location, as defined in the Shell Remote Health Care Guide, and CareFlight International’s clinical procedures
  • be physical able to complete the initial and recurrent (90 day) Helicopter Down The Wire (DTW) ICP Crew Functionality Assessment. Further information will be provided to short-listed candidates.
  • previous rotary wing training and experience including “down the wire” proficiency (minimum 50 winch cycles preferred): day and night winch operations; single Winch; double Winch; accompanied stretcher winch; hypo strop winch; winching onto and off moving vessels; tag line attendant; airborne rappelling
  • ability to perform to the clients CASA approved operating manual: search techniques, aircraft emergencies and confined area landings

Other desirable skills include:

  • highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • “get up and go”….strong customer focus with effective consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • effective time management, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • demonstrated ability to function effectively as a team member in a critical environment
  • current passport or the ability to acquire one
  • current Driver’s License
  • the right to legally live and work in Australia
  • primary Health experience in a remote setting
