Our practical paramedical training course is a hit

Paramedical Training Course

As part of the development and training of new Emergency Health Care workers, Australian Paramedical College students undertake a blended learning experience, with the theoretical components of the course completed online, complemented by two 7-day Clinical Workshops. This hands-on training and development is pivotal in developing the clinical skills of all students.

The Australian Paramedical College holds practical workshops across major cities in Australia. Our main college campus is located on the beautiful Gold Coast, Queensland, at our purpose-built, state-of-the-art training facility. We offer three courses in pre-hospital healthcare, which are completed mostly online, and students from all over Australia descend on the Gold Coast to take their skills to the next level at the Clinical Workshops, which is the practical portion of the course.

The practical component of each of the courses on offer, HLT31120 – Certificate III In Non-Emergency Patient Transport, HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care, and the HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care each have their own tailored Clinical Workshops, which gives our students the opportunity to practice their newly learnt skills in a safe and guided environment. Our Clinical Workshops offer students a mix of lecture-style classroom sessions, simulated scenario training, sessions dedicated to learning and practicing with modern paramedical equipment, and so much more!

The trainers at the Australian Paramedical College come from a range of professions in the pre-hospital healthcare industry, such as surf & ski rescue, construction medic, state ambulance services, St John Ambulance and more. Their wide range of experience allows our students to get an insight into the different career opportunities available. This real-life experience is simply invaluable when it comes to assisting students through practical training and assessment.

Clinical Workshops are designed around students learning Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) skills – depending on which level students are studying at. Some of the skills learned in the Clinical Workshop include; airway management, drug administration, primary survey, secondary survey, vital signs survey, patient extrication, trauma management and ECGs.

In our Clinical Workshops, our students are assessed with simulations of real-life emergencies.  This type of immersive training helps our students practice doing what they would do on the job but in a controlled environment. Students are required to assess the scene, apply systematic processes, make decisions on clinical care and treatment for the patients.

Collaborating with other workers in a team is an essential skill that is learned throughout these fast-paced workshops. Students learn to work with one another, solve complex and often unpredictable problems and follow procedures to ensure a successful outcome.

At the Australian Paramedical College, we pride ourselves on the support that we provide to our students over the course of their training. We offer holistic support, from career guidance to mental health first aid – and everything in between. The trainers are also available for ongoing phone consultations, if students are stuck on any of the online theory. We also have a full Student Support team who are available to motivate, support and assist students in any component of their studies.
