Student Journey

Chris Beath, Diploma Student & Professional Soccer Referee

Meet APC Diploma student Chris Beath.

Chris is a professional soccer referee who has refereed games at the highest international level including the recent Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, and can be seen regularly adjudicating A-league games on Australian TV.

He chose to study the Diploma of Emergency Health Care with Australian Paramedical College (APC) as a pathway to become a paramedic, as he wanted to get a better understanding of emergency health care before advancing to a Bachelor of degree.

Chris found that the flexible nature of APC’s online courses and the access to support at any time meant that he could study while continuing to work and travel.

Chris has found all aspects of his training “really enjoyable”, from the online learning content to the practical hands-on training at workshops.

He also really valued his clinical placement experience at a GP clinic, where he got to practice interacting with patients as well as using foundational skills like vital signs surveys.

While studying the Diploma, Chris has really appreciated the approachability and support of APC trainers and staff. Chris feels that the knowledge, skills and experience he’s gained from the Diploma of Emergency Health Care, means he’s now much better prepared and confident to embark on the next chapter of his career path at university.

Chris is great example of those who have had success in past careers, yet feel the call of service as a paramedic and can utilise APC’s flexible learning and supportive team to start that journey. We are fortunate to have him in the APC family and wish him all the best with his future career.
