Patient Transport Officers, medics and Paramedics can spend a lot of time in their vehicle, so it’s important to get to know it well.
Driving under operational conditions requires practice and a heightened sense of road safety awareness. Driving the Mercedes Sprinter ambulance is part of our Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport training program. Driving a long and wide vehicle of this type, develops confidence and raises greater awareness of the requirements and considerations of driving an ambulance at speed in an emergency.
Patient Transport Officers are also required to maintain their vehicles and make sure they are ready for operational activities. This could be simply checking oil and water, tyre pressure and safety features. The ambulance vehicle must be well-stocked and ready for any scenario, because there’s more than one crew who operate an ambulance.
