Studying with APC

With APC, the majority of your course is completed online, in your own time. You’ll gain all the fundamental knowledge you need, and when you’re ready, you’ll put everything you’ve learnt into practice in clinical workshops and industry placements (depending on which course you’re studying).

It might seem strange to think about learning to be a emergency healthcare practitioner with online learning—but it works, and there are a whole heap of benefits to it.

Your Student Success Team

Whether studying online, at one of our workshops or out on placement, our dedicated Student Success Team is here to help you, every step of the way. There is even a Mental Health First Officer on-hand if you need them.

You can reach out to them for help with:

  • logging into your student portal

Your Trainers and Assessors

With decades of frontline experience between them, as rescue medics, industry medics or state ambulance paramedics, our passionate Trainers and Assessors are experts in frontline healthcare.

They lead all clinical workshops and are who you can reach out to if you have questions about the course material when you are studying online. If you need them, one-on-one sessions are available with them via phone or video call.

Your fellow students and alumni

An easy way to stay motivated and progress with your studies is by connecting with other students to share advice and ask questions. APC alumni are also a great source of knowledge when it comes to choosing a university or specialist career path.

  • Network with thousands of current students in the official APC student forum and form your own study groups.
  • Connect with alumni for advice about university or careers in the industry.

Clinical Workshops

Clinical workshops are your chance to learn the hands-on, practical skills you’ll need to use every day as a emergency healthcare practitioner. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet your Trainers and fellow students.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The number and length of workshops you’ll be required to attend will depend on the course you are studying.
  • Workshops are held at our HQ training facility in Queensland, as well as training venues across NSW, VIC and WA.
  • You’ll learn to use a range of real-world, on-road medical and patient transport equipment properly and practice how to handle emergency and non-emergency scenarios with your trainers and other students.

Clinical Placements

Once you’ve learned the theory and built up your practical skills, it’s time to get out into the real world for some on-the-job experience with an industry work placement.

Work placement is your chance to:

  • Interact with and treat real patients
  • Understand what the job involves day-to-day
  • Build your workplace confidence
  • Gain practical skills that will give you an advantage when you enter the job market
  • Make industry connections

Depending on the course you are taking, the hours of work placement that you need to complete will vary.

While it’s up to you to find your own placement, APC has partnerships with organisations across Australia, including St John VIC, and our Student Success Team can help you source the right placement for you.
