Have you thought about a career in health care? If your answer is ‘YES,’ the HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care will give you the qualification you need to get you kick started in the industry.

Setting new standards in pre-hospital emergency care, the HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care will give you a nationally recognised qualification that allows you to provide pre-hospital and out-of-hospital emergency health care, as well as deliver patient assessment to those who require urgent medical attention.

What does the Certificate IV in Health Care training course involve?

At the Australian Paramedical College we will train you to be mentally and physically prepared for what lies ahead in your career as a medic in the private sector. Or if you are working towards becoming an Ambulance Paramedic, the HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care can prepare you for entry into university to study the Bachelor of Paramedic Science. You will complete 16 units, all of which are delivered online. There will also be a 7 day clinical workshop to attend. Workshops are available in most States.

Throughout the course you will learn the skills of a Basic Life Support (BLS) medic, including:

  • Basic airway management
  • 4 lead ECG monitoring and automatic defibrillation
  • Intramuscular injections
  • Oxygen therapies (including nebulised medications)
  • BLS resuscitation
  • Basic drug management
  • Principles of pharmacology.

You will also develop the required skills for primary and secondary patient assessments; and use clinical reasoning to develop treatment plans for ill and injured patients.

Drug therapy protocols (DTP’s) covered within this course include: adrenaline, glucose gel, glucagon, basic cardiac drugs, naloxone, basic pain relief (Skills, Protocols and Pharmacology equivalent to the level – Intern Paramedic Ambulance Service NSW).
