With the demand for qualified medics and paramedics in WA due to increase over the next five years, this scholarship is a chance for eligible volunteers to take their invaluable experience and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

The Diploma of Emergency Health Care offers a pathway into paid work in the pre-hospital care industry as well as facilitating entry into Bachelor degree programs in paramedicine across Australia. The scholarships will allow eligible Volunteer Ambulance Officers to complete the diploma completely free of charge.

APC’s courses are predominantly delivered online, with in-person clinical workshops and work placements across the country – so successful scholarship recipients would be able to continue volunteering and working throughout their studies.

Dr Simon Sawyer, Director of Education at Australian Paramedical College says the scholarships are a fantastic opportunity for St John WA volunteers.

“They will be able to build on their knowledge and experience as volunteers to provide high quality pre-hospital emergency care to the Western Australian community,” he said.

“We are very proud to partner with St John WA in this initiative, and to continue to work with the ambulance sector to deliver exceptionally well trained Emergency Health Care Diploma students.”

Scholarship awardees will be announced mid October 2022 and will commence the diploma in January 2023.
