Diploma of Emergency Health Care – What You Need to Know

Every day, there are medical emergencies occurring all throughout the country. You may have had the chance to see ambulances zooming in and out of neighbourhoods to attend to people in distress. Every ambulance is manned with qualified professional paramedics, some of whom possess a Bachelor of Paramedic Science (or similar). These professionals can literally save the day as well as the lives of the people they are providing medical aid to.

Since lives are at stake in this kind of public service, having proper training and qualifications can help ensure the safety of the public – that is why a bachelor degree is required. But, what about those people who don’t have the right grades for entry into university? Or maybe it’s been a long time since you’ve studied and are scared to dive right into a bachelors degree? The Diploma of Emergency Health Care is an excellent pathway into university!

What is the Diploma of Emergency Health Care?

The Diploma of Emergency Health Care allows you to become a private sector medic. This is a paramedic style role, but instead of working for the state ambulance service, responding to triple zero (000) calls, you work for a private company. Some examples are Event Medics (at sports events or music festivals for example), Emergency Services Officer ( a medic on a mine site), Construction Medic (medic on construction sites), Patient Transport Officer (non-emergency patient transport between medical facilities), and many more!

The Australian Paramedical College offers the Diploma of Emergency Health Care in a Blended Learning environment. This means you complete most of the course online and towards the end of the course there are face-to-face Clinical Workshops, where you are able to practice with all the modern paramedical equipment, like stretchers, training ambulances, AEDs and much more!

The course typically takes 18-24 months, depending on how much time you can put into your studies.
